Our History
Background
In September 1992, the Madina District Bible Study and Prayer Group conducted a Church planting survey and identified the Adentan SSNIT Flats/Aprotech area as a good place to plant a Church.
Consequently, during the fourth Ga Presbytery Bible Study and Prayer Group’s convention held at PRESEC Legon in January 1993 , the Victory Congregation started as a Preaching Post.
Formation of the Fellowship
The Victory Women’s Fellowship initially started in 1994 when the Executive of Christ Congregation Women’s Fellowship came in to start a branch.
In 1995, the Group was formed under the leadership of Sister Agnes Nyantakyi with twelve (12) members. Since then, all successive leaders, by the grace of God, have worked hard to accelerate the growth of the membership of the group to date.
Meeting Place
From the early beginning, the Group held its meetings at Sister Lydia Otoo’s residence until the Congregation moved from Gbewaa to its current place of worship i.e., Fafraha, near the Adenta SSNIT Flats.
The meeting day initially was Saturday at 4pm but was changed to Wednesday at 6:30 pm.
Programme of Activities
The group undertakes a wide range of activities designed to build up its members spiritually, morally, mentally, physically and financially.
The programme of activities are based on the objectives for the establishment of the Women’s Fellowship in the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and annual Plan of Work and study Materials prepared by the commitee on Women Ministry under Church life and Nurture (CLAN).
Some of these programmes and activities include Bible Studies, Talks on Education, Health, Family Life, Conferences, Workshops on Entrepreneurship and Skills training in Agriculture and Handiworks, Prayer Meetings, Retreats and Breakfast Meetings among others.
The Fellowship also participates in all programmes organized at Presbytery, District levels and the Abokobi Women’s Centre.
Mission and Evangelism
As women in the Congregation, the Fellowship has played its pivotal role in all activities of the Congregation by contributing numerically, financially, and materially to projects and programmes of the Fellowship, Congregation and the Fafraha District as a whole.
In order to increase membership and introduce the Congregation to the residents in the SSNIT Flats and its environs, the Group conducts a “Search for Jesus” during Easter.
The Group has since 2004 to date, nurtured the following Groups in the Fafraha District:
- New Life Housing Down,
- Vision New Legon,
- Calvary Ashiyie,
- Shalom Estate Congregation, and
- Rhema Preaching Post
The support given to these Groups by Victory Congregation Women’s Fellowship has been from their very beginnings through to their inaugurations.
